Wife Suffers Brain Injury
Tom Doehrman won a $590,000 jury verdict for an Indianapolis couple
as a result of a permanent brain injury suffered by the wife in a 1992
collision. This collision occurred on Brookside Parkway South Drive in
Indianapolis, Indiana. The plaintiff was injured in a head-on collision.
As a result of her brain injury, the plaintiff had no recollection of the
collision. It was necessary to hire an accident reconstructionist who
performed a computer analysis and provided demonstrative evidence of the
sequence of the collision. The plaintiff was a registered nurse and had
been hospitalized nearly two (2) months after the collision. Although she
appeared perfectly normal to the casual observer, she suffered from
long-term residual problems that are typical of one who has suffered a
traumatic brain injury:
She had an inability to sustain concentration; Emotional liability;
and, Difficulty in learning new information and adjusting to new
situations.
Because of these difficulties, she was unable to return to her
occupation as a registered nurse and had to retire two (2) years earlier
than she had intended. A Marion County Superior Court jury awarded this
couple $590,000. This case was reported in The Indianapolis News.*
